Polestar 2 LCA report
All in. A colloquial expression meaning that one is fully committed to something. In poker, it also means to bet everything you have before revealing your hand. And though we lean towards the former when using this idiom to reference our own pursuit of sustainable electric performance, the latter works too. Time to put our cards on the table. Starting with our LCA report.
An LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) is a study done to determine the environmental impact of a product. It also provides a framework to measure said impact, along with steps towards a stated goal, such as how to make that product more sustainable. An LCA report shows the findings of this study.
These reports are becoming more commonplace, as various industries seek to become more transparent and more environmentally friendly. This ensures that customers will be educated enough to make informed comparisons and responsible decisions. Unfortunately, the automotive industry isn’t quite so open.
Yet.
We’ve recently performed an LCA to determine the lifetime carbon footprint of the Polestar 2. It includes emissions from materials production, manufacturing, the use phase of the Polestar 2, and its end of life. We’ve released the report, along with the entire methodology we used, in order to encourage others to do the same.
To return to the poker parlance, we want others to see our all-in and call it. We don’t want to see them fold on a more transparent future. Like us, they should go all in. Unlike poker, the risk is too great otherwise.
