ABRP comes to Polestar 2

Acronyms have a much longer history than it would seem. The “SPQR” of the Roman Republic, for instance. Or the “AT&T” acronym, seen from the first days of the stock market. Acronyms may have the modern connotations that they do because new ones are popping up all the time. EV. LOL. OMG. TL;DR. ABRP.

Standing for “A Better Routeplanner”, ABRP is an app that has seen huge popularity with EV drivers. It allows drivers to take into account factors that influence range, like vehicle load and whether the car is fitted with a roof box or trailer, while also accounting for the car itself, like its state of charge (SOC, another acronym). And it’s just become available for Polestar 2.

“We quickly identified a need for ABRP to find its way into Polestar 2,” comments ABRP founder Bo Lincoln. “Thanks to Polestar’s open developer portal and Android Automotive OS emulator, we worked on the app before approaching Polestar with the proposal to roll it out into the car. We have a huge user base consisting of very dedicated and particular EV drivers, who have come to rely upon ABRP. Now, those with Polestar 2 don’t need to plan and rely on the app on their phones before heading on their journey.”

Available for download in the Google Play Store in North American and European markets, ABRP is a shining example of the advantages of running Android Automotive as Polestar 2’s operating system.

“We really value the ability for the community of both developers and Polestar 2 owners to influence what we can include in the car”, says Polestar UX Designer Aloka Muddukrishna. “We liked what Bo had to present and following some final input to best integrate with our user interface and vehicle functions, we could release the app quickly and efficiently.”

And given the app’s obvious advantages, it’s not long before this acronym enters the lexicon.

ABRP FTW.
