2020 Motoring Innovation of the Year Award
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. We knew we wanted to create the new benchmark in infotainment, so we looked at our options: to take on the best, or to work with them to make something even better. Polestar 2 is the first car with a native Android Automotive system with Google built-in, and it just got recognised by the Sunday Times.
Sunday Times Driving has chosen the infotainment system of Polestar 2 as 2020’s Motoring Innovation of the Year. In a jury consisting of customers and motoring journalists from The Sun, Sunday Times, Driving.co.uk and Luxx magazine, Polestar 2 was a clear winner. Entrants in this category were judged according to connectivity, ease of use and convenience. The jury especially liked it for being quick, clear and user friendly.
"Striking a deal with Google to create the first fully integrated Android system was a masterstroke and adds greatly to the pleasure of owning a Polestar 2. It integrates harmoniously with the car's functions — displaying how much charge will remain when you reach your destination is one key function we loved — over and above the integration of familiar apps such as Spotify, Audible and Google Podcasts. Other cars will feature this in the future but Polestar 2 will be remembered as the trailblazer" says Will Dron, editor of Driving.co.uk.
In addition to using the 11-inch central touch screen, Google Assistant voice command can be used to control some apps like Spotify. Additionally, the car can adapt to the preferences of its user and deliver the most relevant answers.
Collaborating with Google to create the truly ground-breaking infotainment system of the Polestar 2, the brain of the car, demonstrated the power of joining. And the results speak for themselves.
