Safety

Safety has been a part of Polestar's DNA since the beginning. These protective genes are evident in Polestar 4, safeguarding all occupants with cutting-edge driver assistance and impact protection systems.

Radar, cameras, and sensors

Support and protection from every angle. The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) uses 1 mid-range radar, 11 exterior cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors to monitor the car's surroundings. The system can instantly evaluate potential safety issues, ready to issue warnings and intervene if necessary.

Rear-view HD camera

Instead of a rear window, Polestar 4 has a roof-mounted HD camera linked to a high-resolution rearview mirror display. The camera placement and protective housing help to prevent dirt buildup and provide an unobstructed, panoramic rearward view. If the driver wants to see the rear passengers, there's the option to switch from the video feed to a regular mirror.

Driver Monitoring System

Strategically positioned in the cabin, the Driver Monitoring System (DMS) is designed to track the driver's eye and head movements to designed to identify any signs of distraction or fatigue. If such signs are detected, the system issues audible and visual warnings. DMS does not store or share any images.

Pilot Assist

Pilot Assist works together with Adaptive Cruise Control, monitoring the distance to the vehicle in front and proximity to lane markings. Supporting the driver at speeds up to 80 mph, the hands-on system makes gentle steering adjustments to keep Polestar 4 centered in the driving lane.

Available as an upgrade.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Allows Polestar 4 to help maintain a safe following distance. Adaptive Cruise Control adjusts the car's speed according to the vehicle ahead.

Parking assistance

The 4 designated parking cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors assist in navigating in and out of parking spots. Visual and audible warnings help the driver to avoid obstacles.

360º and 3D view

Every Polestar 4 comes with surround-view technology, allowing for better maneuvering in tight spaces. Using the front- and rear-view cameras as well as both door mirror cameras, the system shows a bird's-eye or an interactive 3D view of the car on the center display, with the option to select a specific angle.

Cross Traffic Alert with brake support

When backing up out of a driveway, parking space or around a corner, Cross Traffic Alert can warn of approaching cars, cyclists, and pedestrians. If the driver continues to back up, Polestar 4 is designed to automatically apply the brakes if there's a risk of a collision.

Exit assist

When objects such as pedestrians, bicycles, and other vehicles approach from the rear, the Polestar 4 warns occupants against exiting the car. An LED indicator will blink on the frameless mirror closest to the detected motion, coupled with an audible signal if any doors are presently opened.

Lane departure prevention

Lane Keeping Aid

Lane Keeping Aid helps to keep the car from unintentionally veering into other lanes. Active between 37 and 124 mph, it can automatically correct the course of the car with small steering adjustments, and sound a warning if those adjustments aren't enough.

Oncoming Lane Mitigation

To avoid crossing a lane marking and heading into the path of an oncoming vehicle, Oncoming Lane Mitigation helps to alert the driver with audible and visible warnings and may guide the car back into its lane.

Front and rear collision avoidance

Like all Polestar cars, Polestar 4 is equipped with front and rear collision warning systems. These systems can help stop the car if needed and activate hazard warning lights to catch the attention of the oncoming or trailing vehicle's driver.

Intelligent lighting

Enhanced visibility in all driving conditions. The forward-thinking lighting technology of Polestar 4 advances the level of safety and the driving experience.

LED headlights with Active High Beam

Polestar 4  includes Active High Beam technology as standard, using camera sensors in the windshield to identify the headlights of approaching vehicles or the taillights of cars ahead. Once detected, the headlights automatically switch from high beam to low beam.

Home Safe Lights

The Home Safe Lights allow the car's main headlights to stay on to improve illumination outside your home. The length of time can be set via the center display.

Battery safety

A steel and aluminum frame encases the battery pack to reduce the risk of damage in the event of a collision. To further enhance safety, Polestar 4 also incorporates other protective features, lowering the chance of objects heading for the battery if the car is hit at an angle.

Electronic battery protection

If Polestar 4 detects that the car has been in a collision, its advanced safety technology will immediately take action. The battery pack's high-voltage system is automatically disconnected from the rest of the car, significantly reducing the risk of damage to the circuitry.

Post-impact protection

The passenger compartment is constructed using ultra-high-strength steel to protect occupants from the impact of an accident. In the event of a collision, the sensors are designed to trigger the frontal, side and inner-side airbags, providing protection and reducing the risk of injury to all occupants.

Post-impact braking

Post-impact braking is triggered by the activation of the airbags and the seat belt pretensioners. If the sensors detect that this is happening, they send a signal to the brakes, activating them to help reduce the severity of the impact.
