Red Dot’s “Best of the Best” for product design
1955 was a year for innovation and design. It was the first year the colour pink became a popular part of men's fashion. It was the year that UHF (Ultra High Frequency) television was developed. 1955 also saw the very first Red Dot award. In 2021, 66 years later, Polestar 2 has received the Red Dot “Best of the Best” award for product design.
Held annually and containing approximately 50 categories, manufacturers and designers can enter their innovations in the Red Dot competition. With the motto of “In search of good design and innovation”, the jury evaluates the entries and only awards a Red Dot to products that win them over with their high design quality. And then, there is one product that sits at the pinnacle. The best of the best.
“The fact that Polestar claimed its place in a strong field of participants speaks for the excellent quality of the product” says Professor Dr. Peter Zec Founder and CEO of Red Dot.
“I believe we have created a very strong visual identity for the Polestar brand. Being a new player allows us to create an identity that is contemporary and doesn’t rely on traditional paradigms. The aesthetic essence of our three brand values of pure, progressive performance are already apparent in Polestar 2, and we’ve recently shared a glimpse of our future with the Polestar Precept. I’m looking forward to the years to come” commented Head of design at Polestar Maximillian Missoni.
Red Dot Design Week will take place from 21st to 25th June, during which this award will be celebrated.
“Design has to be daring, such as when it translates technology and new trends in society into shapes, interfaces, colours, and materials. It should never be daring for the sake of being different” continued Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath.
1955 was a year for design and innovation. And with this Red Dot win, 2021 is too.
